Tentaspy X Reader

Mild Cussing

I yawned, trying my best to look tired in front of my team as we played cards in the mess hall. Ever since the accident, I had a very, very hard time escaping them for just about everything. Anywhere I went, I had at least one tail or shadow that wasn’t mine. Scout was the hardest, since he blamed himself for the whole thing, in which I told I was happy it happened. This shocked everyone, but I didn’t tell them the truth. Not all of it. My secret wasn’t yet ready to be told. And right now, I was betting that it was hungry.

“Well guys, I’m heading off to bed. Have to be ready for tomorrow’s battle and all.” Scout instantly looked up, but I frowned at him, shaking my head.

“Are ya sure mate? I think this next round might be in your favor.” Sniper noticed that I wanted to be alone, but he has good intentions, knowing that some part of my ‘adventure’ was still lurking around me like a cloud. If only I could tell him that it was actually in the lake outside, and that I really needed to see him. Now.

“Heavy drained me of all my betting material. I’ve got nothing.”

“Hud huddah hu hudaa~” Pyro chuckled.

“Silence Masked perv!” I glomped his head, trying to ignore his words. Nope, I wasn’t haven’t any of that. This was normal poker, not strip poker.

“Alright then dear. Sleep well!” Doctor waved me off, and I was hoping as I turned around that he would keep Scout glued to his seat. I was late, and I didn’t want to hurt my new friend’s feelings.

It had been over a week since I found the Tentaspy living in the sewers after my near death drowning. I owed him my very being, and helped him relocate to the lake to make his life easier. No doubt he would be sitting by the dock now, wondering what took me so long with his dinner. I had been keeping our meetings so secret, our own Spy would never notice, but I was so fearful of my team finding him.

Sure, I could trust them with my life! But what about his life? And his overall distrust and fear of the others, especially Medics, made things even more complicated. You know, maybe talking to Sniper would be good. He knows animals, so maybe he could help me out or something. And I would think he could keep secrets like this.

I quickly ducked out the back doors, escaping into the night as I snuck behind trees and small buildings all the way to the lake. The crystal black waters reflected the speckled sky like glass, and every now and then a wave would lap the rocks with a soft splash that made my heart flutter. It was so picturesque at night, and it helped relieve all my emotions as I padded out onto the dock.

The wooden floor boards creaked beneath my boots as I got to the end, the smell of lake water so fresh and wonderful as a small breeze blew by. Sitting down, I swung my legs a bit, watching the waters for movement.

“Acelin!” I called softly. “Acelin, I’m here!!”

A small splash to my left and he surfaced, reaching and using his arms and tentacles to pull him up beside me. Water droplets rolled down his muscles and face, his dark hair matted to his forehead and hanging in front of his slitted yellow eyes. They were glowing again, and I had come to notice that they did that when he was excited.

“Bonjour, my wonderful friend!” He smiled, his fangs catching the crescent moon’s light. “How is everything back at the base?”

I smiled. “Its good, my team is still on edge from it all. I can't even go to the bathroom without having someone stand out side the door. Its like I’m going to start drowning in the hallways or something.” He laughed, his voice rough with disuse.

“That’s sounds horrible! But at least you know they love and protect you.”

“Yeah.” I reached behind me into my back pack and pulled out a container, still warm. “Here, I’m sorry about being late with it. But the guys wanted to play cards and wouldn’t let me leave till I was broke.”

He took it, and opened it, sniffing its contents. “Its chicken cordon bleu with angel hair pasta in a light garlic sauce with cherry tomatoes. Oh, and scalloped bacon cheese potatoes.” Reaching back again, I pulled out a flask. “And some wine from the back room.”

I thought I saw tears in his eyes when he thanked me, digging into it as I sat and enjoyed his company. It was still weird to be around him, but I found it so relaxing and fun. Although I wasn’t fancy like Spies were, I did dabble in that department from my parents, and knew how to hold a sophisticated conversation with upper class society. I think it has reawakened the old him, since he spoke more and expressed emotions better.

“Merci! You are such a blessing ______!”

I blushed. “Yeah, Spy made this one, since I’m only good at making pizza. But I knew you would enjoy it!” I smiled at his appreciative expression, instinctively hugging him for being so adorable. He tensed slightly in my arms, but eased up at my touch. Although he was wet, slimy, and somewhat cold, I didn’t care. It felt too good to just touch him. I wanted contact, not some hand hold thing.

“Your very….feely dear.” He laughed quietly. “I didn’t think that would be a quality in any team class.”

“I can’t help it. Need something real to express my feelings and show just how I am.” I muttered against his shoulder, leaning against him. A few tentacled wrapped their way around my waist, pulling me closer and keeping me steady. It felt nice.

“Oi, I can tell.” I heard the smirk on his face. “Mind explaining that kiss awhile back?”

I tried to force down my blush with no luck, coughing slightly to feign disinterest. I didn’t want to tell him how nice it was, or how I had wanted to do it again. It was not worth the risk of loosing him in any way. Nope, none at all.

“I uh, did it to save us. As I recall, you almost gave us away, so I had to take action.”

“I don’t believe for a second that it was all just to save our butts back there.”

I growled. “Shut up.” I bit my lip, trying to ignore his feigned shock and focus instead on the night. It was so beautiful and nice, I didn’t want it to slip away. I just wanted to stay there and keep the moment frozen.

“You might want to get back inside. No doubt their checking your room for you.” He teased as I poked his side.

“Fine. But I want to warn you. The battle tomorrow will be bad after our win over Red. I want you to stay safe in the middle of the lake at least, that way no rockets or trespassers will find you.” I frowned. “I’ll come back early in the morning to drop off some more food, but you’ll need to stay low. Can’t trust anyone at this point.”

“Or course. Stay safe yourself, you hear?” He started to slip back into the water, being engulfed into the darkness.

“Kay. Oh wait!” I turned back to him. “I’m not trying to sound offensive or anything, but I…don’t know much about aquatic life and was wondering if it was good to bring Sniper into this. Like, if you get sick or injured, I don’t know a thing about healing anthros.”

“Hmmm. I do believe there might be problications, but if the need arises for his help I think it would be wise to. Give it some time to think it over and we’ll discuss it next time.”

“Alright. Goodnight Acelin!” I waved to him as he repeated the gesture.

-The Next Day-

I bent down, stretching my back. A few pops resonated from sleepy joints, but in the given time they would shape up just right. Hefting my chainsaw, I slid up in between Pyro and Heavy as they stood ready in front of the respawn door. Energy cackled in the air at the scent of battle, and we were all geared up for some action.

“Ready everyone?” Scout shouted, as the seconds began to countdown. I nodded, but noticed Sniper staring at me from the corner. His face was passive, but the intense gaze made me freeze slightly. They were telling me something, and it didn’t look friendly. But they were soon dulled by his sunglasses just as the last second was called.

*5 Minutes Later*

“EAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!” I chased after Scout, screaming as flames licked at my feet. The enemy Pyro laughed manically behind us as we ran, trying to deliver us a very painful death. Scout kept looking behind me, each face he made growing more scared. Puffs of dust were being whipped up as we tried to loose him outside the Red base and failing. There wasn’t much to do in this case.

A sudden bang, and the heat was gone, instead a dull thump. I turned to look as Scout ran off, surely going for the Intelligence now that we were safe. The gunshot was from our fellow Sniper, a flash of light coming from his scope in his tower as I looked up at him. I was going to wave thanks, but remembered the look in the Respawn room. If there ever was a good time to ask him about it, it would be now.

Sneaking about to avoid any attention, I snuck back over to our side and started to scale the ladder up. Trying not to look down, I knocked on the trapdoor, and waited for him to open it. It flipped open and a hand haled out to help me up. I took it and finally got in.

“Thanks.” I grunted, sitting down with my back to the wall as he sat down on a crate. He nodded, slightly in the shadows as the rattling of a minigun rang out from below. Since I hadn’t been up here but a few times, it felt different then being back down on the ground were the fighting was.

“So……” I let my voice drop, biting my lip.

He just stared back at me, as if he was reading my mind or something.

   “I saw you last night.”

“……Shiz.” I face palmed myself. I hadn’t been as stealthy as I thought I was. And there was no point in lying. Sniper always knew when someone was lying.

“I’m not prying for answers, nor am I going to tell the others. But, what the hell was that thing?”
I sighed. “The things name is Acelin. And he’s a Tentaspy.” The face he gave me looked so blank I felt tension rising in the air. “You know, a cross between a Spy and a tenta-thing. Octopus if you want to go with that.”

Still he just stared. “Oh come on! Its not that complicated!” I threw my arms up in the air. “Fine! I met him in the sewers, he saved me from drowning, so now I’m trying to help him. And he’s not going to hurt me, but maybe one of the team members if he feels threatened.”

“……Alright.” He nodded. “I can understand that then.”

“Phew. Good. Because I might need your help.”

   “And why would that be?”

“You know about….animals. I don’t, and if he needed to be treated, I don’t know a thing of what to do. I was thinking maybe you would.”

   “I don’t do sea creatures.”

I just glared back at him. “Could you at least try?”

 He shrugged.

“Okay then, thanks for keeping him a secret. I don’t want the others to find out, especially not Medic. At least until I can get him to trust them.” I kneeled by the trap door and opened it again. Too late, I looked down, and felt a wave of dizziness come over me at the sight of the drop. I heard Sniper exclaim loudly and make a dive for me, but it was way too late. My body tilted and I fell through the hole, gravity dragging me down as everything faded away and as my back slammed into the ground.

-Respawn-

I quickly sat up, the darkness overtaken by a very bright light as the cold air conditioning of the Respawn room blew down my neck. I was confused for a moment, trying to figure out what happened, when it came rushing back.

“…….. GOD DAMN IT!!!”

“Hudda hud??”  Pyro sat on the bench, looking at my curiously as I glared back.

“Hey, I barley go up there! It the highest point on this freaking base, its no wonder I faint when I look down!!” I growled, thrashing my arms. “Don’t judge me and my fear!”

He just (stared?) back at me. “Huddha had hadah.”

“Your so cruel!” I faked tears as the Scout reappeared beside me, screaming profanities about the enemy Spy.

“When I get a hold of that bas-” He noticed me, and I felt That look come back in his eyes. “You fell again, didn’t you?”

“You got killed by the Spy again, didn’t you?” I countered. He shared that same smug grin too, before helping me up. “Touché. Although, you really should stop falling period. We don’t need you busting out your back or anything.”

I got that he implied the sewers again, ignoring the comment completely. “Yeah, yeah, what ever. Come on, ten minutes left to wreck havoc as usual!”

_At The Lake_
(God Bless, there are too many of these in one chapter!!)

The murky lake water proved useful in cloaking the figure beneath, stretched out on his back as he felt the tremors of explosions and saw the blurry clouds of smoke from rockets above. A few tentacles impatiently twitched and curled in the mud and silt, sometimes finding random objects to distract themselves with the ever slowly passing time.

He was slightly worried for ______’s safety, even thought he was positive nothing could ever go wrong with Respawn. It was just that he hadn’t had anyone to care about in so long, that he felt the need to think about her.

The way she smiled at him with such warmth, the kindness that radiated from her, even the way she would touch him felt like the electrical impulses in his brain were exploding in an overload. It seemed like too much around her, but when she was away, there was too little left to remember. It just kept making him confused.

A splash above him made his whole body flinch, crouching into himself to keep safe. His hearing picked up a panicked heartbeat and the raspy breaths of someone in distress, someone having problems swimming.

Acelin instantly thought of _____ and her inability to stay afloat, but he remained cautious as he slowly moved through the water to the source of splashing. The flailing limbs and spastic yells for help were getting them nowhere, and it was a good distance from the shore. They wouldn’t last much longer if he didn’t step in.

Sighing and mumbling to himself about how horrible nice he had become, he quickly darted over to some debris lodged between some rocks and pulled out a big limb. It floated good enough, and seemed to hold even his weight as he gently began to float it over to the drowning man. He kept it steady, making sure it copied the flow of the lake water so no one looking would see a log headed straight at him. That would definitely give him away.

The guy apparently noticed it and grabbed it the second it got within reach. Halfway on hit, he just layed there, catching his breath and thanking his lucky stars that it had appeared. Nodding with satisfaction, Acelin turned and headed back down to safety, every once in awhile looking back up to make sure the person was still okay.

‘Man, _______ would surely be pissed if she found out about this.’ He thought to himself, curling back up on the lake bed and trying to ignore the sound of fighting above.
Second part to my Tentaspy series! Im so happy everyone loved the first part, so Im going to make this longer. But, I am going to be horrible on getting each chapter done, so please dont be mad or upset if it takes awhile, Im just slow. :iconrazycryplz:

Hmmmm......Who is it that Acelin saved? Will Reader-chan ever get over her fear of heights? And will trusting the Sniper be as safe as they think?? Who knows. It can happen, only on- Wait, no, thats not what I wanted to say.
